Responsibilities Assist in the care of patients undergoing anesthesia by preparing anesthesia equipment prior to patient arrival, setting up medications and supplies, and ensuring the cleanliness and readiness of anesthesia equipment. Set up and operate sophisticated anesthesia and monitoring equipment, perform preventive maintenance, and troubleshoot technical issues to ensure optimal functioning. Operate specialized devices such as cell-saver machines, infusion pumps, nerve stimulators, defibrillators, and transport monitors, supporting a range of complex surgical cases including cardiac, liver transplant, vascular, thoracic, trauma, and out-of-OR procedures.
Assist clinicians with difficult intubations and the placement of central line catheters, maintaining clear communication to meet the clinical team s needs throughout procedures. Support anesthesia team during advanced procedures, setting up rooms between cases, preparing carts, and providing comprehensive setup and support at the start and end of each shift. Work closely with service-specific faculty and division chiefs to ensure equipment availability and proper functioning in specialized anesthesia areas.
Provide on-call coverage, assisting with urgent or emergency procedures as needed, and serve as backup to shift supervisors during absences. Contribute to staff development by assisting in the creation and delivery of in-service training programs related to anesthesia technology and equipment. Perform other duties as assigned, supporting the overall efficiency and safety of anesthesia services.
Required Skills Current BLS certification. Minimum of two years of experience as an anesthesia technician or technologist. Proficiency in operating and troubleshooting anesthesia-related equipment.
Strong communication skills to coordinate effectively with anesthesiologists, clinicians, and surgical teams. Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced surgical environment. Additional Skills & Requirements Preferred: Certification by the American Society of Anesthesia Technologists or other recognized professional certifying body.
Educational background: A minimum of a two-year college education with technical training related to anesthesia technology; a four-year college degree with related technical training is also advantageous. Experience in supporting advanced surgical procedures including cardiac, transplant, and thoracic surgeries. Schedule includes afternoon shifts from 1:30 PM to 10:30 PM, with additional on-call, holiday, and weekend responsibilities, as needed.
