About the Department of Pediatric Anesthesiology The Medical College of Wisconsin Department of Anesthesiology was formed in 1965. Since its inception the department has experienced robust clinical, scientific, and academic growth; and has been consistently recognized on regional, national and international levels for leadership and innovation.
The Department of Anesthesiology has a team of 140 Anesthesiologists, 46 Certified Anesthesiologist Assistants, 65 Certified Registered Nursing Anesthetists, 21 Advanced Practice Professionals, and 86 Residents and Fellows. We provide more than 63,000 anesthetics annually, in more than 100 anesthetizing locations our operating rooms and out-of-operating room locations in our five hospitals and four surgery centers. Our well-established research division utilizes both clinical and preclinical research approaches to generate critical new knowledge and advance anesthesia care delivery.
Medical College of Wisconsin, Children's Wisconsin & Children's Specialty Group Children's Wisconsin (CW) was ranked among the top pediatric hospitals in the nation and No. 1 in Wisconsin. The Children's Specialty Group (CSG) is a joint venture with the Medical College of Wisconsin and the Children's Specialty Group. With over 70 specialties and 675 providers, CSG is the largest group providers of pediatric healthcare in the state, serving the children and families of Wisconsin with the highest level of care.
CSG providers had 220,000 outpatient visits at 13 regional care sites, 67,000 emergency department/trauma center visits, and over 9,000 admissions. In 2024-25, CW had eight specialties ranked by US News & World Report including neurology and neurosurgery.
