  • The Department of Veterans Affairs, VA Providence Healthcare System, provides primary care and specialty health services, including mental health care, oncology, prescriptions, treatment for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), dermatology, treatment for alcohol and drug abuse, and more. These Certified Nurse Anesthetists (APN) are located in the Surgical service line within in the Providence VA Medical Center in Rhode Island. The positions are full time position; 40 hours a week. Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (APN) provides perioperative anesthetic care to patients presenting for Surgery. The CRNA works in collaboration with other members of the health care team to improve the quality of care delivered to the Veteran and provides appropriate care for veterans ranging in age from 18 through geriatric years, taking into consideration diagnosis and physical, psychosocial, spiritual and cultural needs. Duties include but not limited to:
  • Responsible for perioperative assessment, evaluation, planning and conduct f an appropriate anesthetic tailored to meet the needs of the surgical patient.
  • Responsible for assuring safe recovery from anesthesia and provide pain treatment in the immediate postoperative period.
  • Accountable for adhering to established policies, standards of care and standards of practice while providing care to surgical patients.
  • Responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of information obtained to carry out required duties.
  • Routinely communicates with Physicians, Managers and other Allied Health Professional staff using sound interpersonal skills.
