The Associate Medical Director of Anesthesiology will assist the Medical Director in overseeing a department of more than 400 physicians and advanced practitioners delivering high-quality anesthetic care across 150 daily sites within the health system. This role integrates clinical leadership, clinical program development, education, research, and faculty development, ensuring that the department functions as an essential part of an integrated multi-specialty group practice across multiple hospitals and clinical sites.


Additionally, the Associate Medical Director will serve as Program Director for the recently developed ACGME-accredited anesthesiology residency program, leading the education and training of the next generation of anesthesiologists while fostering faculty development, mentoring, and leadership advancement.



Key Responsibilities


Clinical & Operational Leadership Collaborate with the Medical Director, Operational Director and Practice Administrators to develop and implement a comprehensive departmental strategic plan that aligns with the health system's mission and vision. Standardize and implement clinical workflows and evidence-based best practices to enhance efficiency, quality, and patient outcomes. Engage with surgical, perioperative, and hospital leadership to drive operational improvements in anesthesia services. Identify and execute process improvement initiatives, promoting a high-reliability culture with continuous quality enhancement. Lead efforts to enhance patient experience, safety, and efficiency, ensuring best practices in anesthetic care delivery. Collaborate with the Medical Director of Quality to implement clinical protocols that reduce care variation and optimize outcomes. Participate in financial stewardship, supporting resource management, operational priorities, and accountability within the department.



Residency Program Director (ACGME-Accredited Program application pending) Lead and oversee all aspects of the ACGME application and management of anesthesiology residency program, ensuring compliance with all accreditation requirements. Develop and refine the curriculum, educational experiences, and assessment processes for residents. Foster a culture of learning, mentorship, and professional development for residents and faculty. Support faculty in integrating evidence-based teaching strategies and providing high-quality training. Act as a liaison with the GME office, ACGME, and other accrediting bodies to ensure continued program excellence.



Faculty Development, Research, & Mentorship Promote faculty development initiatives, ensuring continuous learning and career growth opportunities. Support faculty mentorship programs, cultivating leadership potential within the department. Advocate for research development, encouraging participation in clinical trials, quality improvement projects, and scholarly activities.



Workforce Planning & Engagement Partner with the Medical Director to oversee workforce planning, recruitment, and retention strategies. Enhance departmental engagement and connectivity, fostering a supportive and inclusive culture within the integrated multi-specialty group practice. Support faculty well-being initiatives to ensure provider satisfaction and sustainability.



Financial & Operational Management Assist in monitoring resource stewardship, developing financial and operational priorities, and executing strategies to enhance efficiency. Establish and maintain sound management and business discipline, ensuring fiscal responsibility and accountability.



Clinical Responsibilities



As part of the leadership role, the Associate Medical Director will remain an active clinical practice, providing high-quality patent centered anesthesia care in a team-based collaborative environment. Exemplify clinical excellence and lead by example setting the standard for professionalism, evidence- based practice and patient safety. Establish and maintain sound management and business discipline, ensuring fiscal responsibility and accountability. Promote efficient use of clinical resources including OR time, staffing, equipment, to enhance patient flow and reduce delays. Reporting Structure & Key Relationships Reports directly to the Medical Director of Anesthesiology. Works closely with: Departmental Operational Director Practice Administrators Chief Medical Officer, BMG Chief Medical Officer of Hospitals VP of Perioperative Services Chief Operating Officer Chief Financial Officer Medical Director of Quality Hospital & Health System Senior Leadership, including the Chief Physician Executive Qualifications Board-certified anesthesiologist with strong clinical and healthcare administrative experience. Experience in residency program leadership, GME administration, and academic medicine. Completion of Anesthesiology residency/fellwoship program Master's in Business Administration preferred.
